Moooo....

My daughter is totally offended by my exposed breasts that seem to be out all the time...LOL I try to confine myself to the bedroom when I'm breast feeding because Ethan does not like to have anything covering his head so I have not been able to use my udder cover. I find that I am totally committed to this breast feeding thing no matter how frustrating it is at times. I take great pride in knowing that I am supplying our baby with all the nutrients he needs. With my first child I tried it for a few weeks only coupled with formula. I would say she got 80% formula and 20% breast milk. I just did not enjoy the process, it was painful and I felt like she was not getting enough. With E all but one feeding is breast milk and that's because by 10am I am too exhausted to do anything so Daddy gives him a few ounces of formula so I can get a bit of rest. As soon as I am able to supply more than what he consumes then I will be able to give him 100% mommy milk. During his one month appointment the doctor said he should be drinking 30oz of milk a day so now I'm on the hunt to find out what I can do to increase my milk supply. I drink at least 64oz of water a day, I try and drink 2-4 cups of lactation tea and now my latest experiment is lactation cookies. Currently it takes me approximately 40 minutes to pump 4-6oz of milk, I would love to boost that up to 8-10oz so hopefully these cookies work.

The recipe is courtesy of drmomma.org and I chose the Major Milk Makin' Cookies created by Kathleen Major, PNP, RN. I substituted the chocolate chips for carob chips because I don't eat chocolate.

The cookies taste pretty good, they are moist and not too sweet. I can definitely snack on these daily with a cup of tea.

Ingredients all mixed up

Carob Chips - WONDERFUL chocolate substitute

First batch done, second batch ready for the oven

Close up of cooked batch

I used half the mix and made 24 cookies, so in total this recipe should yield 48 cookies depending on your portion size.

Dear Misty,
Congradulations on the new baby. If you would like to increase your milk for the baby--- eat lots of cabbage and leafy green vegetables. It is very simple. The cookies will not work.

Can't eat lots of cabbage because that will give the baby gas but I do consume "lots" of green vegetables and water and the cookies work for me.
